Basketball Recap: Apex Beats Cary for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Apex entered their tilt with Cary on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They enjoyed a cozy 52-36 victory over the Imps. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 46-44 back in November.

Apex's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ella DeGrow led the charge by putting up eight points in addition to eight boards and four blocks. DeGrow continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Grace Honsberger, who posted ten points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

Apex smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Despite the loss, Cary still got an impressive performance from Jenna Hayes, who had 17 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Hayes has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Garner, who earned ten points.

Apex's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Cary, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apex will host Jordan at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give the Cougars their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Cary, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Willow Spring at 5:00 p.m. The Imps will need to watch out since the Storm have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
