Basketball Recap: Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Comes Up Short

If Cheyenne-Eagle Butte was feeling good fresh off their 63-25 takedown of Marty Indian last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Braves had to suffer through a 78-50 loss at the hands of the Tiospaye Topa Thunderhawks. The Braves lost against the Thunderhawks in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 51-44 score last time.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Dakotta Longbrake, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten steals, and Suni Bowman, who posted 15 points and five boards. Longbrake is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played.

Even though they lost, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Tiospaye Topa, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-55 victory against Lower Brule on the 21st. As for Tiospaye Topa, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 55-46 win against Crow Creek on the 21st.
