The Liberty Leopards will head out on the road to challenge the Champion Golden Flashes at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Liberty won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They took a serious blow against LaBrae, falling 56-23. While losing is never fun, Liberty can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 756th, while the Vikings are ranked 296th).
Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, Champion's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 55-40 bruising from Crestview. Champion has struggled against the Rebels recently, as their game on Monday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Isabella Meyer, who scored 13 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Kayla Haynie was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Champion struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Liberty's loss dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Champion, their loss ended a eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-5.
Liberty was taken down by the Golden Flashes 53-21 in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Meyer, who scored 16 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Now that Liberty knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
