The Meridian Mustangs will challenge the Warren County Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Meridian fell victim to Skyline and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 10-0 to the Hawks. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Warren County). They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over Rappahannock County on Monday. The Wildcats not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25, 2024 (when they won 21-3).
Ally Andlinger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Thomas, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jillian Ryan, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Warren County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meridian has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. Warren County's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-11.
Warren County's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Meridian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Warren County, though, as they've been averaging only 1.6 strikeouts. Will Meridian keep running through batters, or will the Wildcats buck the trend?
Meridian skirted past Warren County 8-6 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
