Rocky Ford is 0-8 against Holly since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Rocky Ford Meloneers will head out on the road to challenge the Holly Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Rocky Ford had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 58-47 win over Swallows Charter Academy on Tuesday. Rocky Ford's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Isaiah Vazquez-Gallegos went supernova for Rocky Ford, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Marchand-Fierro, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Holly entered their tilt with Hoehne with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Holly came out on top against Hoehne by a score of 62-50 on Monday. Given Holly's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Hoehne is ranked 220th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rocky Ford's win ended a 13-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-14. As for Holly, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Rocky Ford couldn't quite finish off Holly in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 51-48. Can Rocky Ford avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
