It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Shaw Raiders ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 58-57 photo finish over Hardaway. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Hardaway's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lamell Mims, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Antonio Dortch, who scored 11 points.
Shaw's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points per game. As for Hardaway, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season.
Shaw won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cairo at 5:30 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Cairo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday. As for Hardaway, they will head out on the road to challenge Bainbridge at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
