The Garey Vikings will square off against the Yucca Valley Trojans at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Garey has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Garey is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 22 runs last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Arroyo on Monday. They lost 13-2 to the Knights.
Garey saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miley Diaz, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Yucca Valley entered their tilt with Desert Hot Springs last Tuesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victor by a 15-2 margin over the Golden Eagles. Considering the Trojans have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bella Lopez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Hannah Cusack and Tayla Monroy did most of the damage at the plate: Cusack went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Monroy scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 2-for-3. What's more, Monroy posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Leila Schwab, who scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 2-for-3.
Yucca Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win got Yucca Valley back to even at 5-5. As for Garey, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Garey has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. However, it's not like Yucca Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
