Softball Recap: Benton Has No Trouble Against Herrin

Benton's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Herrin Tigers as they made off with a 13-3 win. The Rangers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

Avery Thomas (2027) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Jaycee Webb (2027) was incredible, firing off two home runs, five runs, and two stolen bases while going 4-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Ray-McGuire (2027), who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Benton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Herrin only posted an OBP of .375.

The victory got Benton back to even at 14-14. As for Herrin, they dropped their record down to 11-16 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Coming up, Benton will venture away from home to square off against Elverado at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Herrin, they will welcome Johnston City at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
