Alyssa Brunner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Peytyn Chojnacki was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Dowling, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Lancaster lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Rome Free Academy hadn't done well against Baldwinsville recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Sunday. The Black Knights blew past the Bees 7-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Black Knights.
Rome Free Academy let Haylee Bostwick and Alexa Thompson run wild. Bostwick went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Thompson got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That home run was Bostwick's first of the season. Madison Safin was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Rome Free Academy's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Lancaster, their record is now 14-5.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lancaster hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Rome Free Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
