Burges is 0-9 against Hanks since April of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field against the Knights at 6:00 p.m. Burges is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Burges' tournament run continued when they took on Coronado on Saturday. The Mustangs blew past the Thunderbirds 10-3. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Annaliese Avina made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Avina was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Yoselin Chavira was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2025. Kaitlyn Valdiviezo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Burges was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Hanks didn't have quite enough to beat Levelland on Saturday and fell 11-9.
Sara Cordova and Dreana Ballesteros stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cordova went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Ballesteros went 2-for-4 with four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Star Solorio, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.
Hanks' defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Burges, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.
Hanks' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Burges has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Hanks, though, as they've been averaging 10.9 hits. Given Burges' sizable advantage in that area, the Knights will need to find a way to close that gap.
