The South Eugene Axe pushed their score all the way to 65 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a serious blow against Southridge, falling 116-65. While losing is never fun, South Eugene can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while Southridge is ranked 16th).
Levi Hawes and Trey Saunders certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Hawes scored 18 points along with five rebounds, while Saunders scored 18 points. Hawes also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Calvin Yoder, who scored nine points.
South Eugene now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Southridge, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Eugene will square off against Thurston at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Nelson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Nelson's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
