The Rancho Rams will face off against the Cimarron-Memorial Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rancho has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Rancho is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Legacy just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against the Longhorns, falling 13-1. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Rams couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, Cimarron-Memorial waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Jaguars get on the board and left with a 22-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Elaine Hernandez made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hernandez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Taylor Ramos was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Ponce, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Cimarron-Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.
Rancho's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Cimarron-Memorial, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Cimarron-Memorial's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Rancho has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Cimarron-Memorial, though, as they've been averaging only 4.2 strikeouts. Will Rancho keep running through batters, or will the Spartans buck the trend?
Rancho took their win against Cimarron-Memorial when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 9-1 score. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
