Both teams had to tread carefully at times as the refs weren't afraid to hand out yellow cards:  Villy Verenchuk was handed one for Butler, while Independence got theirs courtesy of  Parker McNeeley.
 The  victory made it two in a row for Independence and  bumps their season record up to 13-4. As for Butler, they have  traveled a rocky road recently, having  lost eight of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13-2 record  this season.
 Everything went Independence's way against Butler in their previous matchup  on Wednesday, as Independence made off with  a  5-0 win.
