Basketball Recap: E.E. Smith's Run of Seven Straight Victories Now Over

After a string of seven wins, E.E. Smith's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They came up short against the Fayetteville Academy Eagles, falling 77-54. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Golden Bulls have suffered since February 16, 2024.

Despite the loss, E.E. Smith saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tre Williams posted 26 points and seven boards. Williams has been hot for a while, having posted 18 or more points the last 12 times he's played. Cassell Cruickshank was another key player, putting up eight points and ten rebounds.

Brady Barnes was his usual excellent self, posting 28 points for Fayetteville Academy. That's the most points Barnes has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kingston Carlsen, who earned 14 points.

E.E. Smith's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Fayetteville Academy, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-7.

E.E. Smith will welcome Overhills at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. E.E. Smith is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.7 points per game this season. As for Fayetteville Academy, they are taking a road trip to face off against Terry Sanford at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Fayetteville Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
