The Malvern Prep Friars were the 65-63 winner over the Academy of the New Church Lions when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Malvern Prep took a 61-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Academy of the New Church to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bahsil Laster, who scored 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Warren, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Malvern Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Academy of the New Church, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Malvern Prep will take on the Quakers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. William Penn Charter has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests. As for Academy of the New Church, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th. Friends Select is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
