The St. Marys Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 36 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Ritchie County 80-44 on the road. With St. Marys ahead 40-19 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Marys to victory, but perhaps none more so than Addie "r" Davis, who went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 7 assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Davis has scored at least 25% of St. Marys' points. Breanna Price was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Ritchie County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayci Gray, who scored 17 points along with five steals. Gray also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elsa Law, who scored nine points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Ritchie County were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Marys only racked up 26 assists.
St. Marys' victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Ritchie County, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2.
St. Marys will head out on the road to face off against Magnolia at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Magnolia will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 112th, while St. Marys is ranked seventh). Ritchie County will finish 2023 at home by hosting Tyler at 5:30 p.m. on December 29th. Tyler is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
