Gracy Nava was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Lavietani Taufahema and Carey Maletis did most of the damage at the plate: Taufahema went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Maletis went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Kylie Cox, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Menlo-Atherton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2025.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask American). Everything went their way against Deer Valley on Saturday as they made off with a 14-3 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Like Menlo-Atherton, American also got a great game from a two-way player: Amber Hillman. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Hillman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mangalu Rodrigez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those stolen bases were her first of the season. Faith Paz was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
American's victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Menlo-Atherton, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
American's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Menlo-Atherton has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for American, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Menlo-Atherton's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
