It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Arleta Mustangs had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by Bernstein at home to the tune of 55-6. The win was familiar territory for Arleta who now have eight in a row.
Arleta's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Xavier Vega, who rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Vega was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 61 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Tapia-ponce, who rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns.
Arleta's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.6 points per game. As for Bernstein, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.
Arleta will be playing in front of their home fans against Fairfax at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fairfax is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Bernstein does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
