Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stanhope Elmore). They took down the Calera Eagles 49-33 on Thursday. The victory was familiar territory for the Mustangs, who have now won three contests in a row.
One reason for the win was Stanhope Elmore's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Despite the loss, Calera still got an impressive performance from Jordan Ward, who threw for 184 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 90 yards and one score on only 11 carries. The Eagles' leading receiver Xzavier Boone was Ward's top target yet again, picking up 124 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Stanhope Elmore's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Calera, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
