The Westminster Christian Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Killian Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Westminster Christian will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Westminster Christian barely beat Mater Academy Charter the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Warriors never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory on Friday.
The team relied heavily on James Suarez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Bryan Borges was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Killian). They blew past Riviera Prep 15-0 on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Sebastian Perez looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Killian: the team is 6-3 when he allows at most one hit, but 3-8 otherwise.
At the plate, Killian got a massive performance out of Julian Zeledon, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Zeledon is becoming a predictor of the Cougars' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 6-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Lucas Arcaute, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.
Killian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Westminster Christian's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-9-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Killian, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-11 record.
Everything went Westminster Christian's way against Killian in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, as Westminster Christian made off with a 14-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
