The Winnebago Indians will take on the Dixon Dukes & Duchesses at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Winnebago has three straight wins, Dixon has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Winnebago had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Rock Falls on Thursday. The Indians blew past the Rockets 12-2.
Vern Gilley-Amdal was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Sammi Falnes was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Kyla Warkentien was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Winnebago was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Dixon suffered their closest loss since March 30, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Byron by a score of 6-4.
Bailey Tegeler was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Abby Hicks also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Dixon's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Winnebago, their victory bumped their record up to 16-13.
Dixon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Winnebago hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. It's a different story for Dixon, though, as they've only averaged .230. Will they be able to contain Winnebago's hitters?
