Basketball Recap: Christian Mckinney Key Part of a Team Effort in Wolves Win

Davenport won the last time they faced Fredericksburg and things went their way on Friday too. The Davenport Wolves secured a 60-56 W over the Fredericksburg Billies. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while the Billies are ranked 658th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Davenport to victory, but perhaps none more so than Christian Mckinney, who went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 30 points. The contest was Mckinney's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Richard Groff, who posted ten points along with eight boards and three steals.

Fredericksburg lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jack Gioffre, who had 16 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Those six boards gave Gioffre a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Greene, who scored nine points and six assists.

Davenport is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 25-5 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 33.2% in those games and 26.3% outside of them. As for Fredericksburg, they dropped their record down to 18-12 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Davenport will take on Canyon Lake at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Davenport is facing Canyon Lake at the right time seeing as Canyon Lake is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Fredericksburg, they will square off against Wimberley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wimberley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 17 matchups -- so hopefully Fredericksburg likes a good challenge.
