Parker is 0-10 against Yuma Catholic since March of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Broncs will look to defend their home field against the Shamrocks at 3:45 p.m. Parker has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Parker came up short against ALA - West Foothills on Friday, falling 14-1.
Parker saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Oscar Ortega, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Yuma Catholic entered their tilt with Kingman on Friday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They were the clear victors by an 18-2 margin over the Bulldogs. The Shamrocks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.
Leonel Avelar made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Yuma Catholic got a massive performance out of Erik Topete, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. What's more, Topete posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brady Friar, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Yuma Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kingman only posted an OBP of .250.
Yuma Catholic's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Parker, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Parker has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Yuma Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Parker might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Yuma Catholic in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Broncs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
