The Academy for Innovative Education Aviators's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 34-22 to Downtown Doral. Academy for Innovative Education lost against Downtown Doral in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 28-9 score last time.
Despite the loss, Academy for Innovative Education still got an impressive performance from Samantha Ayerdis, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jazmin Grullon, who scored two points along with six rebounds.
Downtown Doral found their leader in underclassman Isabella Osorno, who scored 19 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Osorno has scored at least 25% of Downtown Doral's points. Daniela Perozo was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Academy for Innovative Education's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Downtown Doral, their win bumped their record up to 1-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Academy for Innovative Education will take on Archbishop Carroll at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Downtown Doral, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Divine Savior Academy at 3:30 p.m. Allowing an average of 57 points per game, Divine Savior Academy has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this contest.
