The Madison Marlins came tearing into Saturday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Lamar 64-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Madison found their leader in underclassman Anthony Avalos, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Avalos' 12th in a row with at least ten points. Joe Whylie was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Madison is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Lamar, their loss dropped their record down to 14-10.
Madison will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sterling at 8:30 p.m. on January 12th. Lamar will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Chavez at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th.
