On Saturday, the Langston Hughes Panthers faced the Carrollton Trojans in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Langston Hughes was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 41-40 to Carrollton. It was the first time this season that Langston Hughes let down their fans at home.
Langston Hughes lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jasmine Baxter, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was McKayla Taylor, who scored four points along with 13 rebounds and six blocks.
Langston Hughes' defeat ended an 18-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-4. As for Carrollton, the victory (which was their 19th in a row) raised their record to 20-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Langston Hughes and East Paulding will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. East Paulding has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 9. As for Carrollton, they will head out on the road to square off against Westlake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westlake will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Carrollton is ranked sixth).
