Southside and Lejeune are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Seahawks will host the Devil Pups at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Southside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Southside made easy work of Greene Central and carried off an 11-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Seahawks in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won six in a row.
Carolina Crisp made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lily McLean and Layla Hombirg did most of the damage at the plate: McLean scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4, while Hombirg went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. McLean is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last 14 games she's played. Emily Mondragon was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Southside hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Lejeune was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They came up short against Southside, falling 12-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Devil Pups have suffered against the Seahawks since April 7, 2017.
Lejeune saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kadence Gordon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
Lejeune's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10-1. As for Southside, the victory got them back to even at 7-7-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Southside has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lejeune struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Southside's way against Lejeune in their previous meeting on Tuesday, as Southside made off with a 12-0 win. Do the Seahawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Devil Pups turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
