Dk Garza had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 185 yards and three scores while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 12th straight game with at least 115 rushing yards. Another back making a difference was Steffen Torreira, who rushed for 70 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Alamo Heights was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 270 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 161 rushing yards in 14 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Boerne took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 38-7 victory over Gregory-Portland. The Greyhounds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by 24 points or more this season.
Alamo Heights better keep an eye on Grant Sweeney. He was instrumental in Boerne's win, throwing for 307 yards and three TDs while completing 73.1% of his passes, and also rushing for 80 yards and a pair of scores. What's more, Sweeney posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in October. 117 of Sweeney's passing yards were hauled in by Zachry Fraiser, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
One reason for the win was Boerne's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Logan Lewis refused to say out of the backfield, picking up two sacks all by himself.
Alamo Heights' record is now 12-1. As for Boerne, their record now sits at an identical 12-1.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Alamo Heights has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 312.4 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Boerne has preferred to attack from the air: they average 296.8 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Alamo Heights couldn't quite finish off Boerne when the teams last played back in September and fell 37-35. Can the Mules avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
