Basketball Recap: Miller County Comes Up Short

Miller County lost against Early County back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Miller County Pirates took a 43-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Early County Bobcats. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Miller County still got an impressive performance from Zariyona Williams, who went 6 for 14 en route to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. That's the most steals Williams has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Rhamya Hughes, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 10 points.

Leading Early County to victory were Nakevia Brown and Ka?Lyiah Ogden. Brown dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards, while Ogden posted seven points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Brown has become a key player for Early County: the team is 13-5 when she posts at least ten boards, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty'Jerrica Russell, who put up ten points in addition to six assists and three steals.

Miller County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Early County, their win bumped their record up to 14-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Miller County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mitchell County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Early County, they will face off against Terrell County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
