Baseball Game Preview: Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks vs. Canby Lancers

The Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks will venture away from home to square off against the Canby Lancers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Dawson-Boyd will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Dawson-Boyd will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Lac qui Parle Valley, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Blackjacks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles on Tuesday, sneaking past 2-0.

Tygan Long was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kameron Sather, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

Meanwhile, Canby didn't have quite enough to beat Central Minnesota Christian on Tuesday and fell 8-6. The Lancers have struggled against the Bluejays recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Jace Sigler made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Abrahamson, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Canby now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Dawson-Boyd, their record now sits at 5-2.

Everything went Dawson-Boyd's way against Canby in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Dawson-Boyd made off with a 6-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blackjacks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
