Basketball Game Preview: Spring Valley Timberwolves vs. Ironton Fighting Tigers

The Spring Valley Timberwolves will take on the Ironton Fighting Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Spring Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Ironton likes a good challenge.

Ironton better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Spring Valley really get things going. Spring Valley put the hurt on Huntington with a sharp 76-55 win on Thursday. Given the Timberwolves 's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while the Highlanders are ranked 82nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Spring Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Harrison Riggs, who went 13 of 14 on his way to 27 points and eight boards. The game was Riggs' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Clay Robertson was another key player, going 6 for 11 en route to 20 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Ironton over Rock Hill in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Everything went Ironton's way against Rock Hill as Ironton made off with a 72-46 victory. The Fighting Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Spring Valley's win was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. As for Ironton, they are also on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Spring Valley didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Ironton in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 79-75 victory. Will Spring Valley repeat their success, or does Ironton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
