Volcano Vista has gone 8-2 against Rio Grande recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Volcano Vista Hawks duke it out with Rio Grande Ravens at 6:00 p.m. Volcano Vista is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
On Tuesday, Volcano Vista needed a bit of extra time to put away Eldorado. They came out on top against the Golden Eagles by a score of 5-2.

Aaron Sanchez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since March 1st.
At the plate, Volcano Vista let Aiden Gonzales and Andres Holguin run wild. Gonzales went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run, while Holguin scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that Holguin snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Evan Tafoya, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Volcano Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rio Grande). They walked away with a 13-9 victory over Manzano on Tuesday. With that win, the Ravens brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Rio Grande got a big performance out of Andrew Salas, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Luis Salinas was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Rio Grande now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Volcano Vista, their record is now 10-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Volcano Vista hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Rio Grande struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Volcano Vista beat Rio Grande 9-6 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Does Volcano Vista have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rio Grande turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
