Softball Game Preview: First Colonial Patriots vs. Kellam Knights

First Colonial hasn't had much luck against Kellam recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Patriots will face off against the Knights at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as First Colonial comes in on five and Kellam on ten.

While First Colonial's win against Bayside wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Marlins on Tuesday.

Chloe Outland looked comfortable as she tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maura Haesler was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Tori Rodriguez, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Kellam got themselves on the board against Salem on Tuesday, but Salem never followed suit. They blew past the Sundevils 10-0. Considering the Knights have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kellam pushed their record up to 20-1 with the win, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for First Colonial, their record is now 14-5.

First Colonial suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Kellam in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
