The Segerstrom Jaguars were the 44-30 winner over the Marina Vikings when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Segerstrom fell just short of Marina by a score of 21-19.
Segerstrom's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Isaiah Valdivia and Ayden Morales. Valdivia rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, while Morales rushed for 55 yards and two touchdowns.
Segerstrom's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 6-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-3 St. Bernard's and 6-4 Troy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.7% over those games). As for Marina, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Segerstrom will square off against Torrance at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Marina, they will head out on the road to face off against Vista del Lago at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Vista del Lago is ranked 302nd, while Marina is ranked 326th).
