Basketball Recap: Oakmont Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jayden Washington and Aldin Bubic

Oakmont lost against Marysville back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Oakmont Vikings fell to the Marysville Indians 58-52. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 716th, while the Indians are ranked 356th).

Aldin Bubic and Jayden Washington certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Bubic almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards, while Washington went 5 of 9 on his way to 11 points and six rebounds. Those 19 points gave Bubic a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alan Zuniga, who posted six points.

Marysville had a senior duo take command as Jordan Brooks went 9 of 14 on his way to 22 points and Dennis Syders went 6 of 8 on his way to 12 points. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for Brooks. Eli Delozier was another key player, putting up seven points.

Oakmont's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Marysville, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oakmont will host Wheatland at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Oakmont is facing Wheatland at the right time seeing as Wheatland is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Marysville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Center at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Center is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.2 points per game this season.
