Port Isabel extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region IV District 32 this week by beating Zapata, 39-14. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Tarpons.
Port Isabel led the league in scoring this week by notching 39 points on the Hawks. Isiah Martinez threw for 161 yards and 4 touchdowns and ran for 66 yards in the win.
Monty Stumbaugh's team's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Jaime Gonzalez chipped in 100 yards. Jose (Gordo) Garza helped Port Isabel's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 23 yards.
The Tarpons' dynamic duo of Martinez and Louis Bennett proved tough for Zapata to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Garza helped Port Isabel's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 23 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Rio Hondo's Eli Pitones and Isaiah Valladarez have proven to be a lethal combination. Pitones has thrown for 799 yards this season, while Valladarez has 17 catches for 250 yards. Gonzalez from Port Isabel leads the league in rushing with 581 yards.
The Tarpons are currently in first, while Progreso is in third.
