Edison and Fountain Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Chargers will challenge the Barons at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Edison will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Los Alamitos, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Chargers put the hurt on the Griffins with a sharp 10-3 victory on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Chargers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Elina Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Aubrey Catron was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Stolba, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Edison hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Fountain Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Newport Harbor get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Barons considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Fountain Valley also got a great performance from Courtney Kols as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 5.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Kols has posted since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, Andrea Maldonado was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. Kileigh Villalobos was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Edison's record now sits at 11-12. As for Fountain Valley, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Edison skirted past Fountain Valley 4-2 when the teams last played on April 3rd. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
