The Hampton Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight defeat. They were the victim of a tough 65-39 loss at the hands of Dorchester. While losing is never fun, Hampton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Dorchester is ranked 126th).
Hampton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Gilmore, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Gilmore hasn't dropped below 12 rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Lukassen, who scored 12 points along with four steals and two blocks.
Hampton has not been sharp recently as the team has lost 12 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-16 record this season. As for Dorchester, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-5.
Hampton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 47-40 defeat vs. Riverside on the 8th. Dorchester has also already played their next game, a 49-34 defeat against McCool Junction on the 9th.
