Basketball Game Preview: Omaha North Vikings vs. Gretna Dragons

The Omaha North Vikings will head out to face off against the Gretna Dragons at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Omaha North knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Gretna likes a good challenge.

It was a classic North v. South duel when Omaha North faced off against Millard South on Friday. The contest between Omaha North and Millard South didn't end well, with Omaha North falling 83-68. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Patriots are ranked tenth).

Omaha North's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jerri'On Williams, who went 9 of 20 on his way to 19 points and six steals, and Ban Yor, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 19 points and seven rebounds. Williams' evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dontae Mcdowell, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Omaha North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Gretna was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 58-53 to Blair.

Omaha North's loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-6. As for Gretna, their record is now 5-7.

Omaha North didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Gretna in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, but they still walked away with a 63-58 win. Does Omaha North have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gretna turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
