Wells is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Manley is on a six-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Wells Raiders will welcome the Manley Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wells has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 183 points over their last three contests.
While Wells didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-9), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Foreman 57-6 on Wednesday. The Raiders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 35 points or more this season.
Wells found their leader in freshman Ashanti Clark, who dropped a triple-double on 35 points, 16 boards, and 13 steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Clark has scored at least a third of Wells' points. Another player making a difference was Gabrielle Marshall, who almost dropped a triple-double on ten points, nine rebounds, and nine steals.
Wells smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive games.
While Manley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-9), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They strolled past Austin College and Career Academy with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 50-32.
Manley found their leader in sophomore Jaklaya Hunter, who went 17 of 28 on her way to 41 points and six steals. The contest was Hunter's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamya Friend, who posted four points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.
Manley's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Wells, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Wells has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Manley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Wells couldn't quite finish off Manley in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 and fell 30-27. Can Wells avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
