AAAA Region 8 recap Oct. 3, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Stephens County, who took down 83rd ranked Stephens County, 24-20.
Monroe Area extended the longest winning streak in AAAA Region 8 this week by beating Lanier, 33-20. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Lanier's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Taylor Grant threw for 148 and one touchdown and Marty Sanders had 80 yards receiving. On the ground Tario Fuller chipped in 122 yards. Onyx Berrios helped Lanier's passing attack out by catching two balls for 36 yards.
Lanier's Grant and Sanders have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Grant has thrown for 843 yards this season, while Sanders has 19 catches for 389 yards. Chaz Thornton from the Indians leads the league in rushing with 791 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Johnson takes on Chestatee. As it stands, the Knights are in fifth, while the War Eagles are in third.
Chestatee moved up to 117 from 198 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAAA Region 8. The War Eagles were able to make the jump by beating Stephens County 24-20.
