The Eaton Reds will face off against the Basalt Longhorns at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Eaton has five straight victories, Basalt has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Eaton earned a 5-2 win over Resurrection Christian.
Gunnar Garrison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits.
At the plate, Liam Whalen was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Basalt came up short against Resurrection Christian on Friday, falling 7-1.
Basalt saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hagan Hamlet, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Eaton pushed their record up to 16-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Basalt, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Eaton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .478. However, it's not like Basalt struggles in that department as they've averaged .482. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Eaton's way against Basalt when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Eaton made off with a 20-0 victory. Will the Reds repeat their success, or do the Longhorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
