The Lovington Wildcats fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Carlsbad Cavemen on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cavemen by a score of 57-54. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lovington in their matchups with Carlsbad: they've now lost six in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Lovington lost, one person who can't be blamed is Julian Arroyo. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points along with three steals. Arroyo is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Demarcus Thompson jr was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 16 rebounds and three steals.
Lovington's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Carlsbad, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lovington will take on Chaparral at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Carlsbad, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Goddard at 7:00 p.m. Goddard will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Carlsbad is ranked 30th).
