The Wood River Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. They took a 62-45 bruising from Ord. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wood River in their matchups with the Chanticleers: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, Wood River still got an impressive performance from Macie Peters, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Lainey Paulk was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Leading Ord to victory were Natalie Williams and Maggie Fischer. Williams scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Fischer dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fischer has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Claire Cargill, who scored 13 points along with two blocks.
Wood River's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Ord, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Wood River will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Nebraska Christian is ranked 126th, while the Eagles are ranked 129th). As for Ord, they will head out on the road to challenge the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Doniphan-Trumbull focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday.
