Newton Falls put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Champion, posting a 66-37 win at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Newton Falls has posted yet this season.
Cameron Huff and Jabriel Rufai were among the main playmakers for Newton Falls as the former scored 21 points along with six rebounds and the latter scored 21 points along with seven blocks and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Huff has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Landon Mcgregor, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, LaBrae scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Crestview 85-46 at home. Given LaBrae's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Crestview is ranked 710th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newton Falls' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for LaBrae, their victory bumped their record up to 11-1.
Newton Falls came up short against LaBrae in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 58-48. Can Newton Falls avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
