Spencer is 0-10 against Neillsville since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Spencer Rockets will head out on the road to face off against the Neillsville Warriors at 7:15 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Spencer has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Neillsville will arrive with eight straight wins.
Last Tuesday, Spencer was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 49-45 to Gilman. Spencer has not had much luck with Gilman recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Spencer saw an underclassman step up: Autumn Davis almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Davis hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Alexis Mlsna was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Neillsville stacked a 17th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They blew past Colby 78-21 on the road. Given Neillsville's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Colby is ranked 414th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Spencer has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Neillsville, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-3.
Spencer was taken down by Neillsville 62-23 in their previous matchup back in January. Can Spencer avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
