The Skyline Hawks are taking a road trip to challenge the Brentsville District Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Skyline challenged Central Woodstock on Wednesday. Skyline took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Central Woodstock. The Hawks have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Mackenzie McIntyre was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Skyline saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alice Benson, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Brentsville District was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against Patriot by a score of 11-6. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Austyn Blankenship spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Brentsville District let Kate Search and Cora Morgan run wild. Search went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run, while Morgan scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Morgan a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Riley Cornnell, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Brentsville District kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Brentsville District pushed their record up to 2-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for Skyline, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Skyline came out on top in a nail-biter against Brentsville District in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Will Skyline repeat their success, or does Brentsville District has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
