Basketball Recap: St. Agnes Academy's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

St. Agnes Academy can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They took down the Lutheran South Academy Pioneers 54-35. The Tigers pushed the score to 42-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Pioneers cut but never quite recovered from.

Despite the defeat, Lutheran South Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Annaliese De La Pena posted 24 points and four steals. De La Pena's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Anna Schepmann, who put up two points and nine rebounds.

St. Agnes Academy pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.3 points per game. As for Lutheran South Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

St. Agnes Academy will challenge Alief Hastings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lutheran South Academy, they will face off against Fort Bend Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Bend Christian Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Lutheran South Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
