Williamson hasn't had much luck against Sayre recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Williamson Warriors will take on the Sayre Redskins in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m.
Williamson is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a 60-30 loss at the hands of Wellsboro. The Warriors were down 51-24 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Williamson's loss came about despite a quality game from Jack Nolan, who went 7 for 16 on his way to 14 points. That was a full 46.7% of Williamson's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sayre). They breezed by Wyalusing Valley to the tune of 68-37 on Tuesday. With that victory, the Redskins brought their scoring average up to 51.8 points per game.
Williamson better keep an eye on Nick Pellicano. He was instrumental in Sayre's win, going 13 of 18 en route to 28 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Pellicano is now averaging an impressive 16.6 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Trump, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Sayre smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 19 offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.
Sayre now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Williamson, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Williamson has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Sayre struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Williamson was dealt a bruising 80-53 loss at the hands of Sayre in their previous matchup back in January. Can Williamson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
