The Milby Buffs will venture away from home to challenge the Spring Woods Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Milby's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over Sterling. Winning may never get old, but the Buffs sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Jamie Rocha and Daniella Juarez did most of the damage at the plate: Rocha scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Juarez went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Rocha has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Carrizalez, who scored two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Milby always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .955. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Spring Woods won against Madison on Friday with 18 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Tigers blew past Sterling 18-0. The victory was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on four straight.
Caylee Corona made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Spring Woods got a massive performance out of Addison Bruton, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Sophia Cisneros was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Milby's record is now 9-3. As for Spring Woods, their record now sits at 11-14.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Milby hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Spring Woods struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Milby took their win against Spring Woods when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 14-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buffs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
